Company 95 was dispatched to the former Morysville Body works complex at 1646 hours for a report of a gas leak after a gas line was struck by an Excavator installing a water line. On location crews found a major leak spewing Natural Gas 20 to 40 feet into the air. Crews worked with Eastern Berks Regional Police to shut down Reading Avenue and had one resident closest to the leak evacuate from his home. UGI was responding and arrived on location to shut down the gas line. UGI had some difficulty getting to the valve as it is routinely flooded and had a large amount of mud and soil blocking the valve. The line was shut down and crews checked surrounding buildings for gas levels and all was clear and the scene was turned over to UGI around 1855 hours.
