At 1504 hours Company 95 was dispatched to a Structure fire, Barn struck by Lightning at 196 Colebrookdale Road assisting Amity Fire & Rescue Company 49 along with Berks Companies 19, 6, 7 & Boyertown Ambulance as well as Montgomery Companies 79, 58 & 59. Additional Tankers were added after Chief 49 arrived on location. The owner of the barn knew it was struck and saw it was on fire and quickly got all of his cattle out of the barn and out in the pasture. Water supply was a challenge as well as all of the hay stored in the barn that caught fire. Chief 49 requested Douglass Township bring their Backhoe to assist with pulling some of the hay out to extinguish it and the family and friends of the owners were using their equipment to help move the large piles of burnt hay. Douglass Township Emergency Management Coordinator arrived on location and authorized contacting Crable Excavating and Paving to bring in an Excavator to help with moving debris and hay to get the fire extinguished. Firefighters worked with the owner to get several pieces of farm equipment out of the burning barn. The Salvation Army Canteen was dispatched to the scene to provide drinks and food.
